Context-Aware Scheduling of Distributed DL-Reasoning Tasks in Wireless Sensor Networks

چکیده
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) provide a means to acquire lots of raw data from vast amounts of easy-to-deploy sensors. Ontologies facilitate structuring data into information and support automatic inference mechanisms. The combination of wireless sensor networks and ontologies can bring significant added value to intelligently process the raw data intomeaningful information. In an ontology-based system, this process is referred to as description logics (DL) reasoning. However, the sensorsmight not be able to execute the reasoning process locally because of resource constraints. Additionally, the usage of the radio interface consumes a lot of power. Therefore, a balance has to be found between local processing and transmission towards the more powerful nodes. In this paper, we present our collaboration platform to bring together wireless sensor networks and distributed ontology A-Box reasoning. This platform should support the adoption of ontology-based methodologies and DL-Reasoning in a distributed setting. We detail a number of algorithms to optimise both bandwidth utilisation and power consumption. These algorithms have been evaluated on a real-life wireless sensor and mesh network test bed, namely WiLab.t. The results show that significant savings of up to 92% in terms of bandwidth utilisation can result from our approach.

A JOINT DUTY CYCLE SCHEDULING AND ENERGY AWARE ROUTING APPROACH BASED ON EVOLUTIONARY GAME FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Network throughput and energy conservation are two conflicting important performance metrics for wireless sensor networks. Since these two objectives are in conflict with each other, it is difficult to achieve them simultaneously. In this paper, a joint duty cycle scheduling and energy aware routing approach is proposed based on evolutionary game theory which is called DREG. Making a trade-off ...
متن کاملContext-aware Modeling for Spatio-temporal Data Transmitted from a Wireless Body Sensor Network
Context-aware systems must be interoperable and work across different platforms at any time and in any place. Context data collected from wireless body area networks (WBAN) may be heterogeneous and imperfect, which makes their design and implementation difficult. In this research, we introduce a model which takes the dynamic nature of a context-aware system into consideration. This model is con...

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are consist of independent distributed sensors with storing, processing, sensing and communication capabilities to monitor physical or environmental conditions. There are number of challenges in WSNs because of limitation of battery power, communications, computation and storage space. In the recent years, computational intelligence approaches such as evolutionar...
متن کاملENERGY AWARE DISTRIBUTED PARTITIONING DETECTION AND CONNECTIVITY RESTORATION ALGORITHM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Mobile sensor networks rely heavily on inter-sensor connectivity for collection of data. Nodes in these networks monitor different regions of an area of interest and collectively present a global overview of some monitored activities or phenomena. A failure of a sensor leads to loss of connectivity and may cause partitioning of the network into disjoint segments. A number of approaches have be...
متن کاملDesign and evaluation of two distributed methods for sensors placement in Wireless Sensor Networks
Adequate coverage is one of the main problems for distributed wireless sensor networks and The effectiveness of that highly depends on the sensor deployment scheme. Given a finite number of sensors, optimizing the sensor deployment will provide sufficient sensor coverage and save power of sensors for movement to target location to adequate coverage. In this paper, we apply fuzzy logic system to...
